Windows Server 2012, codenamed Windows Server 8, is the sixth edition of Windows Server. It is the server edition and is the successor to Windows Server 2008 R2. Two versions appeared during the development period, namely preview for application developers and beta version. The product became available on the market on September 4, 2012. Compared to its predecessor, Windows Server 2012 does not support Itanium systems and is available in four editions.
